Temple Announcement

On October 6, 2024, President Russell M. Nelson announced plans to construct the Juchitán de Zaragoza Mexico Temple at the 194th Semiannual General Conference. Juchitán lies on the southeast coast of the state of Oaxaca on the Pacific side of southern Mexico. The Juchitán Mexico Temple was the 26th house of the Lord announced for the country. At the time of the announcement, dedicated temples in Mexico included the Ciudad Juárez Mexico Temple, Colonia Juárez Chihuahua Mexico Temple, Guadalajara Mexico Temple, Hermosillo Sonora Mexico Temple, Mérida Mexico Temple, Mexico City Mexico Temple, Monterrey Mexico Temple, Oaxaca Mexico Temple, Puebla Mexico Temple, Tampico Mexico Temple, Tijuana Mexico Temple, Tuxtla Gutiérrez Mexico Temple, Veracruz Mexico Temple and Villahermosa Mexico Temple. Temples that were under construction or in planning included the Cancún Mexico Temple, Chihuahua Mexico Temple, Cuernavaca Mexico Temple, Culiacán Mexico Temple, Mexico City Benemérito Mexico Temple, Pachuca Mexico Temple, Querétaro Mexico Temple, San Luis Potosí Mexico Temple, Toluca Mexico Temple, Torreón Mexico Temple, and Tula Mexico Temple. Mexico had more than 1.5 million Latter-day Saints in nearly 1,900 congregations. Missionary work began there in 1875.1
