Temple Announcement
On April 7, 2024, President Russell M. Nelson announced plans to construct the Chihuahua Mexico Temple at the 194th Annual General Conference. It will be the 25th temple in Mexico. At the time of the announcement, Mexico was home to over 1.5 million Latter-day Saints in more than 1,875 congregations. The dedicated temples in the country included the Ciudad Juárez Mexico Temple, Colonia Juárez Chihuahua Mexico Temple, Guadalajara Mexico Temple, Hermosillo Mexico Temple, Mérida Mexico Temple, Mexico City Mexico Temple, Monterrey Mexico Temple, Oaxaca Mexico Temple, Tampico Mexico Temple, Tijuana Mexico Temple, Tuxtla Gutiérrez Mexico Temple, Veracruz Mexico Temple, and Villahermosa Mexico Temple. Other temples under construction or announced included the Cancún Mexico Temple, Cuernavaca Mexico Temple, Culiacán Mexico Temple, Mexico City Benemérito Mexico Temple, Pachuca Mexico Temple, Puebla Mexico Temple, Querétaro Mexico Temple, San Luis Potosí Mexico Temple, Toluca Mexico Temple, Torreón Mexico Temple, and Tula Mexico Temple. The preaching of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ began in Mexico during the 1870s. In 1961, a stake was organized in Mexico City and a temple was dedicated in 1983.1
