"May this temple that will be built here stand as a beacon of light and truth to the youth of Thy Church. May they come to know the Savior more deeply within these sacred walls," prayed Elder José A. Teixeira of the United States Central Area Presidency at the Missoula Montana Temple groundbreaking on Saturday, June 6, 2026. This will be the third house of the Lord in the state, joining the Billings Montana Temple (1999) and the Helena Montana Temple (2023).1
Temple Rendering
On December 23, 2024, the official exterior rendering of the Missoula Montana Temple was released to the public.2
Temple Site
The site location for the Missoula Montana Temple has been revealed as a 5.08-acre site located at the corner of Old Bitterroot Road and Lower Miller Creek Road on the southern side of Missoula. Plans call for a single-story temple of approximately 19,000 square feet with an accompanying ancillary building. It will be the third temple built in Montana. Detailed design plans continue. No rendering has been released, and no groundbreaking date has been scheduled.3
Temple Announcement
On April 3, 2022, President Russell M. Nelson announced plans to construct the Missoula Montana Temple at the April 2022 General Conference. Montana, located in the western United States and bordering Canada, is home to more than 50,000 Latter-day Saints and more than 125 congregations. The Missoula Montana Temple will be the third temple for the state. The first, the Billings Montana Temple, was dedicated in November 1999. The Helena Montana Temple was announced in April 2021.4
