Earthwork Progress at the Tampa Florida Temple Site

Earthworks are well underway at the Tampa Florida Temple site and are expected to be completed in the next three to four weeks. Outlines are visible for the temple foundation and parking lot islands. Subcontractors will soon be on site to carry out utility trenching and pipe fitting for the utilities that will service the property. Construction has been underway for the past two months.

Construction Getting Underway at the Tampa Florida Temple Site

It's been just over a month since the groundbreaking ceremony was held for the Tampa Florida Temple, and plenty of work has been carried out to prepare the property for construction of the temple and meetinghouse. Bulldozers and compactors have leveled the ground and increased its load-bearing capacity. Drilling and excavating equipment will be used for constructing the buildings' foundations.

Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for the Tampa Florida Temple

Elder Neil L. Andersen of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles presided at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Tampa Florida Temple on Saturday, August 23, 2025. "We ask that Thou might bless this land and this sacred house once constructed, that it might be a light and strength to the Latter-day Saints and to all the community," prayed Elder Andersen in his site dedicatory prayer. "Let our friends and neighbors feel Thy Spirit and increase their faith in Thy Son as they sense what has come to this place."

Groundbreaking Date Announced for the Tampa Florida Temple

Elder Neil L. Andersen of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will preside at the groundbreaking services for the Tampa Florida Temple on Saturday, August 23, 2025. The 29,000-square-foot temple will be constructed on a 12-acre site located at 9445 Camden Fields Parkway, Riverview, Florida. It will be the fourth temple constructed in the state of Florida, joining the Orlando Florida Temple (1994), Fort Lauderdale Florida Temple (2014), and Tallahassee Florida Temple (2024). A fifth temple has been announced for Jacksonville.

Demolition Carried Out at the Tampa Florida Temple Site

Demolition of the building that stood on the Tampa Florida Temple site has been completed. The facility formerly housed Cooley Law School, which relocated to the Tampa Oaks neighborhood of Temple Terrace. There are two temples in operation in Florida in Tallahassee and Fort Lauderdale. The temple in Orlando is closed for renovation, and plans have been announced for a fifth temple in Jacksonville.

Preliminary Construction Work at the Tampa Florida Temple Site

A chain-link fence has been installed around the Tampa Florida Temple site where crews and heavy equipment will be carrying out preliminary construction activities, including demolition of the existing facility. Cooley Law School was the occupant of the building, but the campus has been relocated from its former Riverview location to the Tampa Oaks area of Temple Terrace.

New Location Selected for the Tampa Florida Temple

A new location has been announced by the First Presidency for the Tampa Florida Temple. The single-story temple of approximately 29,000 square feet will be constructed on a 12-acre site located at 9445 Camden Fields Parkway, Riverview, Florida. The first Latter-day Saint congregation in the Big Bend region was created in 1897. By 1904, there were 1,230 Church members in Florida, and today, there are nearly 173,000.

Exterior Rendering Released for the Tampa Florida Temple

An official exterior rendering of the Tampa Florida Temple has been released to the public. The 30,000-square-foot building will be constructed on a 16.2-acre site adjacent to an existing meetinghouse at 4806 Bell Shoals Road in Valrico. Plans to construct the temple were announced by President Russell M. Nelson on April 3, 2022. It will be the fourth temple constructed in the state.

Tampa Florida Temple to Be Built Adjacent to Meetinghouse

The location of the Tampa Florida Temple site has been announced as a 16.2-acre property where a meetinghouse stands at 4806 Bell Shoals Road in Valrico. Plans call for a single-story temple of approximately 30,000 square feet that will be constructed behind the meetinghouse. It will be the fourth temple constructed in Florida. Two have been dedicated in Orlando and Fort Lauderdale. Another is under construction in Tallahassee. And a fifth Floridian temple was recently announced for Jacksonville.
