Temple Announcement

Chile's fourth temple, the Santiago West Chile Temple, was announced at the October 2021 General Conference by President Russell M. Nelson. The Santiago Chile Temple was dedicated 1983, and the Concepción Chile Temple was dedicated 2018. Ground was broken for the Antofagasta Chile Temple in 2020. There are more than 600,000 Latter-day Saints in Chile in over 500 congregations. Santiago is the capital and largest city in Chile with a population of nearly 7 million residents.4

Temple Facts

The Santiago West Chile Temple will be the fourth temple built in Chile, following the Santiago Chile Temple (1983), the Concepción Chile Temple (2018), and the Antofagasta Chile Temple (under construction).

The Santiago West Chile Temple will be the seventh temple built in the same city as another operating temple, the Santiago Chile Temple (1983), making Santiago, Chile, the seventh city in the world to have more than one temple, following South Jordan, Utah; Provo, Utah; Lima, Peru; St. George, Utah; Guatemala City, Guatemala; and Rexburg, Idaho.

The Santiago West Chile Temple will be the fifth temple built outside of the United States in the same metropolitan area as another operating temple, making the Santiago Metropolitan Region the fifth metropolitan area outside of the United States with more than one temple, following the Lima metropolitan area in Peru, the Greater Manila Area in the Philippines, the Guatemala City metropolitan area in Guatemala, and Greater São Paulo in Brazil.

The Santiago West Chile Temple was announced in the 38th anniversary year of the Santiago Chile Temple.
