Elder Holland Rededicates the Memphis Tennessee Temple
Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles rededicated the Memphis Tennessee Temple today in a single session. The temple closed on September 29, 2017, for a major renovation that fully updated the interior, exterior, and grounds. The floor plan was slightly modified, and ventilation issues were addressed.
Memphis Tennessee Temple Opens for Public Tours
The public is invited to tour the renovated Memphis Tennessee Temple beginning this Saturday, April 13, and continuing through next Saturday, April 20, 2019, excluding Sunday, April 14. The temple was dedicated 19 years ago on April 23, 2000. It will be rededicated by Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles on Sunday, May 5, 2019.
Memphis Tennessee Temple: A Race to the Finish
Over the past few weeks, Memphis-area members have been praying and fasting for a timely completion of the Memphis Tennessee Temple, and miracles have taken place. A staggering amount of work has been accomplished in a matter of days as the general contractor has prepared the temple to be transferred to the Church this week. Just eleven days remain before guests arrive for the open house.
Memphis Tennesse Temple Entrance
An ornate set of doors with sidelights and a transom window have been installed at the Memphis Tennessee Temple. Sconce-style light fixtures will be installed on either side of the doorway, and concrete forms and rebar have been set in place to create concrete planter boxes.
Open House Reservations Available for Memphis and Oklahoma City Temples
Free open house reservations are now available for the public open houses of the Memphis Tennessee Temple and the Oklahoma City Oklahoma Temple. The open house in Memphis will be held from Saturday, April 13, through Saturday, April 20, 2019. The Oklahoma City open house will begin Wednesday, April 24, and conclude on Wednesday, May 1, 2019.
Temple Open Houses to Be Held in Memphis and Oklahoma City
Scheduling adjustments have been released for the reopening activities of the Memphis Tennessee Temple and Oklahoma City Oklahoma Temple, which are currently undergoing renovation. Week-long public open houses have been added prior to the rededication ceremonies. The dates of the rededications have not changed.
Private Rededication Announced for the Memphis Tennessee Temple
Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will preside over the rededication of the Memphis Tennessee Temple on Sunday, May 5, 2019. Attendance at the session will be by invitation with no broadcast to local meetinghouses. The two-hour block of Sunday meetings will continue as planned. No open house or youth devotional will be scheduled.
Scaffolding Coming Down at Memphis Tennessee Temple
The majority of scaffolding around the Memphis Tennessee Temple has come down as stained-glass installation and stone cladding wrap up. Other temples in the United States of this same floor plan are undergoing renovation at the same time including the Oklahoma City Oklahoma Temple, Raleigh North Carolina Temple, and Baton Rouge Louisiana Temple.
Exterior Details of the Memphis Tennessee Temple
A zoomed-in snapshot of the north wall of the Memphis Tennessee Temple provides a closer look at the ornate stone and stained glass being installed as part of the renovation overhaul. The temple closed just over 14 months ago and is expected to be completed next year.
Angel Moroni Added to Memphis Tennessee Temple
Memphis-area members and missionaries gathered to the Memphis Tennessee Temple this morning to witness the raising of the angel Moroni statue. Cheers of joy went up as Moroni took his position atop the spire. Numerous mobile devices captured the event and shared it on social media.
Art Glass Installed in Memphis Tennesse Temple Steeple
Little work remains before the entire Memphis Tennessee Temple is clad in stone, allowing workers to move on to other projects including the installation of art glass in the temple's window openings. Beautiful blue glass has already been installed in the steeple.
A Residential View of the Memphis Tennessee Temple
Residents of the Memphis suburb of Bartlett have a front seat to the renovation work being carried out at the Memphis Tennessee Temple, including the beautifully reshaped tower clad in an off-white stone. The temple shares a site with the stake center for the Memphis Tennessee North Stake.
Steeple Framing for Memphis Tennessee Temple
Steel structural framing has been erected for the new steeple of the Memphis Tennessee Temple. The redesigned tower will be bulkier and slightly taller than the former structure, allowing for the inclusion of art glass windows. Reconstruction of the temple will continue through 2018.
Marble Gone in Memphis
The final pieces of exterior marble were removed from the last week.
Five Weeks into Memphis Tennessee Temple Renovation
Significant progress has been made on dismantling the interior and exterior of the since its closure five weeks ago. Area missionaries were given the service opportunity of disassembling delicate items like the Celestial Room chandelier.
Endowments Received by 104-Year-Old in Memphis Temple
"It was a marvelous experience just going," said Dorothy Wagner of her first temple experience at the Memphis Tennessee Temple. She had grown up Presbyterian and after nearly a century of faithful attendance, converted to Mormonism at age 103. "I'm perfectly satisfied with the Mormon church," Wagner said. "I can't say enough."
