Minor Renovation Project Progressing at the Columbia South Carolina Temple

A 4½-month renovation project is progressing at the Columbia South Carolina Temple where shipping containers, flexible ducts, rolls of carpet, and workers dressed in white can be seen. The waiting room will be remodeled to create a separate break room for ordinance workers, and the temple presidency offices will be reconfigured. Updates will be carried out to the baptistry laundry room and ordinance worker locker rooms. The temple is scheduled to reopen after January 22. No open house or rededication will be held.

Extended Maintenance Closure for the Columbia South Carolina Temple

An extended maintenance closure for the Columbia South Carolina Temple will begin on Monday, September 4, 2023 and continue through Monday, January 22, 2024. The 4½-month renovation project will include remodeling of the waiting room to create a separate break room for temple workers, reconfiguring the temple presidency offices, and updating the baptistry laundry room and the temple worker locker rooms. The temple was dedicated almost 24 years ago on Saturday, October 16, 1999.

Moroni Replaced on the Columbia South Carolina Temple

The angel Moroni has been replaced on the Columbia South Carolina Temple, following a lightning strike that damaged the previous statue. The gilded fiberglass sculpture was removed from a wooden crate and set atop the spire by crane on June 27, 2022. Moroni holds a trumpet to his lips, representing an angelic heralding of the restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ in these latter days.
