Columbia South Carolina Temple Set to Reopen in March

Renovations to the Columbia South Carolina Temple will wrap up over the next month. Appointments are being taken for ordinance work beginning Tuesday, March 5. Mechanical upgrades to the building include new heating and air conditioning equipment. Laundry facilities have been enlarged, and updates to the baptistry have been carried out. In one section of the building, the layout has been reconfigured to create a hallway to a new ordinance worker space with dressing rooms and a break room. The non-patron waiting room has also been updated.

Minor Renovation Project Progressing at the Columbia South Carolina Temple

A minor renovation project is progressing at the Columbia South Carolina Temple where shipping containers, flexible ducts, rolls of carpet, and workers dressed in white can be seen. The waiting room will be remodeled to create a separate break room for ordinance workers, and the temple presidency offices will be reconfigured. Updates will be carried out to the baptistry laundry room and ordinance worker locker rooms. The temple, which was scheduled to reopen in January, will now reopen on March 5. No open house or rededication will be held.

Extended Maintenance Closure for the Columbia South Carolina Temple

An extended maintenance closure for the Columbia South Carolina Temple will begin on Monday, September 4, 2023 and continue through Monday, January 22, 2024. The 4½-month renovation project will include remodeling of the waiting room to create a separate break room for temple workers, reconfiguring the temple presidency offices, and updating the baptistry laundry room and the temple worker locker rooms. The temple was dedicated almost 24 years ago on Saturday, October 16, 1999.

Moroni Replaced on the Columbia South Carolina Temple

The angel Moroni has been replaced on the Columbia South Carolina Temple, following a lightning strike that damaged the previous statue. The gilded fiberglass sculpture was removed from a wooden crate and set atop the spire by crane on June 27, 2022. Moroni holds a trumpet to his lips, representing an angelic heralding of the restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ in these latter days.
