Temple Announcement

On April 6, 2025, President Russell M. Nelson announced plans to construct the Uyo Nigeria Temple at the 195th Annual General Conference. It is the seventh temple announced for the country. At the time of the announcement, the Aba Nigeria Temple was in operation and five other temples were in the planning stages: the Abuja Nigeria Temple, Benin City Nigeria Temple, Calabar Nigeria Temple, Eket Nigeria Temple, and Lagos Nigeria Temple. There were more than 250,000 Latter-day Saints in nearly 850 congregations in Nigeria. West Africa is one of the fastest growing areas of the Church in the world.1
