Building the Foundation for the Torreón Mexico Temple

Work is progressing on the foundation of the Torreón Mexico Temple, located west of Torreón in the city of Gómez Palacio. The temple is rising across the street from an existing meetinghouse where auxiliary facilities will be constructed to support the work of the temple. Members in the area currently travel approximately 210 miles (340 km) to participate in ordinances at the Monterrey Mexico Temple.

Excavation Underway at the Torreón Mexico Temple Site

Early construction activity is underway for the Torreón Mexico Temple including site clearing, grading, and excavation by heavy machinery. A groundbreaking ceremony was held last December. There are two other temples under construction in the country: the Puebla Mexico Temple and the Querétaro Mexico Temple. Plans have been announced for eight additional temples to be constructed.

Torreón Mexico Temple Groundbreaking Event Held

On Saturday, December 10, Elder Hugo Montoya, president of the Mexico Area, presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for Torreón Mexico Temple at its location in the neighboring city of Gómez Palacio. Attendees at the event included government officials, journalists, Church members, and special guests such as the Mujeres Salvando Mujeres (Women Saving Women) organization. A young man with pioneer roots in the area shared his testimony saying, "What a grand blessing that the construction of this holy place is…because I will be able to be closer to my Heavenly Father in my youth."

December Groundbreaking Announced for the Torreón Mexico Temple

Elder Hugo Montoya, president of the Mexico Area, will preside at the groundbreaking services for the Torreón Mexico Temple on Saturday, December 10, 2022. The 10,000-square-foot temple will be constructed in the suburb of Gómez Palacio on a 0.89-acre site located across from the meetinghouse at the corner of Paris and Amsterdam. The metropolitan area of Torreón straddles the border that separates the Mexican states of Coahuila and Durango.

Location Announced for the Torreón Mexico Temple

The Torreón Mexico Temple will be built in the western suburb of Gómez Palacio on a 0.89-acre site across from the meetinghouse at the corner of Paris and Amsterdam. The single-story temple will be approximately 10,000 square feet. The temple will be one of sixteen that are dedicated, under construction, or announced for the country of Mexico. No groundbreaking date has been announced.
