Temple Announcement
On October 6, 2024, President Russell M. Nelson announced plans to construct the Puerto Montt Chile Temple at the 194th Semiannual General Conference. Since missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ arrived in 1851, Chile has become home to more than 600,000 Latter-day Saints in more than 570 congregations. The temple will be the sixth house of the Lord in the country. The first temple in the Spanish-speaking countries of South America was dedicated in Santiago in 1983. The other four temples in operation, under construction or announced in Chile are the Antofagasta Chile Temple, Concepción Chile Temple, Santiago West Chile Temple, and Viña del Mar Chile Temple.2
