Groundbreaking Date Announced for the Jacksonville Florida Temple
Groundbreaking services for the Jacksonville Florida Temple will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026. Elder Massimo De Feo, First Counselor in the United States Southeast Area Presidency, will preside. Attendance at the temple site will be by invitation, but the proceedings will be live streamed for all who wish to participate online. The 29,000-square-foot temple will be constructed at 3323 Loretto Road in Jacksonville.
Building a Retaining Wall at the Jacksonville Florida Temple Site
Preliminary construction continues at the Jacksonville Florida Temple site where are a detention pond has been installed, a retaining wall is under construction, and a flat mound has been created for the temple. Materials for the storm drain system have been staged on site, and heavy machinery is grading the soil. A date for the groundbreaking ceremony has not been announced yet.
Building Permit Issued for the Jacksonville Florida Temple
On Monday, September 22, 2025, the City of Jacksonville issued a building permit for the Jacksonville Florida Temple. The single-story building of approximately 29,000 square feet will stand on a 6.6-acre property located at 3323 Loretto Road. Preliminary site preparations have been carried out to clear and grade the land ahead of construction of the temple. No groundbreaking date has been announced yet.
Government Reviews Underway for the Jacksonville Florida Temple
Church representatives have applied for a permit to construct the Jacksonville Florida Temple. The 29,000-square-foot building will feature a basement, main level, and mechanical mezzanine. The permit is undergoing review, and a zoning review is pending. The Jacksonville Business Journal reports that the second phase of the plan features a 20-lot subdivision.

An artistic rendering of the Jacksonville Florida Temple has been released to the public. The single-story temple of approximately 29,000 square feet will be built on a 6.6-acre site located at 3323 Loretto Road in Jacksonville. It will be the fifth temple constructed in the Sunshine State, following the Orlando Florida Temple (1994), Fort Lauderdale Florida Temple (2014), Tallahassee Florida Temple (2024), and Tampa Florida Temple (announced).
