Major Renovation Announced for the Apia Samoa Temple

Beginning December 23, 2026, the Apia Samoa Temple will be closed for extensive renovation. During the closure, members from the temple district are encouraged to attend other temples as their circumstances permit. Those desiring to receive their own ordinances should contact a temple in the surrounding area to make the necessary arrangements. The temple was dedicated in 1983 and rededicated in 2005 after a fire destroyed the original building.

Phase 3 Temple Reopening Dates Announced

The Apia Samoa Temple and Brisbane Australia Temple will begin Phase 3 of reopening on January 4, 2021. As of that date, there will be 4 temples in Phase 3, 119 temples in Phase 2, and 25 temples in Phase 1. There are currently 11 temples that have paused operations due to a resurgence of COVID-19 cases in those areas.

Apia Samoa Temple Suffers Minor Damage

On Thursday, Cyclone Evan battered the Samoan islands, killing three people and leaving thousands homeless. All Church missionaries are safe. The Apia Samoa Temple suffered minor damage. Church leaders and volunteers are actively engaged in administering relief supplies.

Earthquake Hits Pacific Islands

A massive earthquake and tsunami has tragically taken the lives of 8 Church members—including 2 children—on the Samoan islands. Severe damage has been reported to members' homes and to 2 meetinghouses. The Apia Samoa Temple suffered no structural damage other than Moroni losing his horn.
