Construction Status

The Winchester Virginia Temple is currently in the planning stages. No groundbreaking date has been announced.

An official rendering of the Winchester Virginia Temple has not yet been released to the public.


Temple Site

On October 30, 2023, the location of the Winchester Virginia Temple was announced as an 11.27-acre site located at 200 Merrimans Lane in Winchester. Plans call for a single-story temple of approximately 30,000 square feet.1


Temple Announcement

On April 2, 2023, President Russell M. Nelson announced plans to construct the Winchester Virginia Temple at the April 2023 General Conference. It will be Virginia's second temple. Winchester is situated in far Northwest Virginia, about 75 miles west of Washington, D.C. Virginia is part of the east coast of the United States and is home to more than 97,000 Latter-day Saints in over 215 congregations.2
