Groundbreaking Ceremony

Elder Robert M. Daines, Second Counselor in the North America Northeast Area Presidency, will preside at the groundbreaking for the Winchester Virginia Temple on Saturday, August 9, 2025. The temple's location was announced on October 30, 2023. It will be constructed on an 11.27-acre site located at 200 Merrimans Lane. It will be the second temple constructed in Virginia, following the Richmond Virginia Temple. Plans have also been announced for temples to be constructed in Roanoke and Norfolk.1


Temple Rendering

On December 16, 2024, the official exterior rendering of the Winchester Virginia Temple was released to the public.2


Temple Site

On October 30, 2023, the location of the Winchester Virginia Temple was announced as an 11.27-acre site located at 200 Merrimans Lane in Winchester. Plans call for a single-story temple of approximately 30,000 square feet.3


Temple Announcement

On April 2, 2023, President Russell M. Nelson announced plans to construct the Winchester Virginia Temple at the April 2023 General Conference. It will be Virginia's second temple. Winchester is situated in far Northwest Virginia, about 75 miles west of Washington, D.C. Virginia is part of the east coast of the United States and is home to more than 97,000 Latter-day Saints in over 215 congregations.4
