Temple Announcement

On April 19, 2026, during a devotional held in the Marysville Washington Stake, Elder Hugo E. Martinez of the United States West Area Presidency read a First Presidency statement that said: "We are pleased to announce the construction of a temple in Marysville, Washington. The specific location and timing of the construction will be announced later. This is a reason for all of us to rejoice and express gratitude for such a significant blessing — one that will allow more frequent access to the ordinances, covenants and power that can only be found in the house of the Lord."

At the time of the announcement, Washington was home to some 278,000 Latter-day Saints in more than 470 congregations. The Church’s history in the state stretches back to the 1850s. Many Latter-day Saints helped build railroads in the region in the 1880s. In 1930, Church membership in Washington was 1,900 in eight congregations, with chapels in Everett, Spokane, Seattle and Olympia. Many members came to the state with the completion of the Grand Coulee Dam on the Columbia River in the early 1940s. The state’s first temple was completed in Seattle in 1980.1
