Kirtland Temple and Historic Nauvoo Properties Reopen for Public Tours
The Kirtland Temple and other historic buildings in Nauvoo transferred to the stewardship of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from Community of Christ earlier this month are now open for public tours. "Our hope and expectation is that we would be as good a steward for these resources, these assets, these sacred locations, as [Community of Christ has] been," said Bishop W. Christopher Waddell, First Counselor in the Presiding Bishopric. The buildings in Nauvoo transferred to the Church include the Smith Family Homestead and Summer Kitchen, the Joseph and Emma Smith Mansion House, the Red Brick Store (reconstructed), and the Nauvoo House. Numerous additional artifacts will be on exhibit at the Church History Museum at Temple Square through October 26, 2024.
Ownership of the Kirtland Temple Is Transferred to the Church
Ownership of the Kirtland Temple has been transferred from the Community of Christ to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as announced today in a Church news release. Other significant properties that are changing hands include the Smith Family Homestead, the Mansion House, the Nauvoo House, and the Red Brick Store, along with various manuscripts and artifacts.
