Groundbreaking Services Held for the Winchester Virginia Temple

Elder Robert M. Daines, Second Counselor in the United States Northeast Area Presidency, presided at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Winchester Virginia Temple on Saturday, August 9, 2025. In his site dedicatory prayer, he spoke of Christ's worship in the temple during His earthly ministry: "He went to the temple to pray, to worship, to heal and to teach. We are grateful for a temple here where we can follow Him in worship and seek His healing touch." The temple will be the second in Viriginia, joining the Richmond Virginia Temple that was dedicated in May 2023. Plans have been announced for two additional temples in Roanoke and Norfolk.

Preliminary Construction Activity at the Winchester Virginia Temple Site

At the Winchester Virginia Temple site, preliminary construction activity is underway ahead of next month's groundbreaking services that will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025. Heavy-duty culvert pipes have been staged on the property for the site drainage system, and excavators are clearing and grading the land. Winchester is located about 75 miles west of the Washington D.C. Temple where local members currently participate in temple ordinance work.

Groundbreaking Date Announced for the Winchester Virginia Temple

Elder Robert M. Daines, Second Counselor in the North America Northeast Area Presidency, will preside at the groundbreaking for the Winchester Virginia Temple on Saturday, August 9, 2025. The temple's location was announced on October 30, 2023. It will be constructed on an 11.27-acre site located at 200 Merrimans Lane. It will be the second temple constructed in Virginia, following the Richmond Virginia Temple. Plans have also been announced for temples to be constructed in Roanoke and Norfolk.

Beautiful Rendering Published for the Winchester Virginia Temple

An exterior rendering for the proposed design of the beautiful Winchester Virginia Temple has been published. The 30,000-square-foot temple will be constructed in the historic city (founded in 1744) on an 11.27-acre site located at 200 Merrimans Lane in Winchester. It will be the second temple constructed in the Old Dominion state, following the Richmond Virginia Temple (2023). A third temple has been announced for Roanoke.

Location Announced for the Winchester Virginia Temple

The location of the Winchester Virginia Temple was released today. This sacred house of the Lord will be constructed on a 11.27-acre site located at 200 Merrimans Lane in Winchester. Plans call for a single-story temple of approximately 30,000 square feet. It will be the second temple built in Virginia, following the Richmond Virginia Temple, which was dedicated on May 7, 2023. Plans for the state's third temple, the Roanoke Virginia Temple, were announced on October 1, 2023.
