Structural Framing Underway for the Grand Rapids Michigan Temple

Structural framing has begun for the Grand Rapids Michigan Temple. The steel beams and columns are lifted into place using heavy machinery. The awaiting crews then join the pieces together to create the framework. Grand Rapids' name come from the rapids on the Grand River that used to aid the furniture industry with the transportation of logs. In the early 1900s, flood walls were installed to remove the rapids and manage flooding.

Grand Rapids Michigan Temple Foundation Progressing

Construction continues on the foundation for the Grand Rapids Michigan Temple, located in the East Paris neighborhood just north of the Gerald R. Ford International Airport. Preparations are advancing for the parking areas, and concrete is being poured for some of the walkways. The temple will be the second constructed in the state of Michigan. The state's other temple is located in the Detroit suburb of Bloomfield Hills.

Construction Progress at the Grand Rapids Michigan Temple Site

Since December's groundbreaking event for the Grand Rapids Michigan Temple, construction has been underway at the site for the past three months. The footings and foundations for the temple are being installed, and the exterior walls for the grounds maintenance building are being erected. Along the street side of the property, ground is being prepared for paving the driveways and parking areas.

Groundbreaking Event Held for the Grand Rapids Michigan Temple

Elder Mathias Held of the North America Northeast Area Presidency presided at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Grand Rapids Michigan Temple on Saturday, December 7, 2024. "We can witness before our eyes how the work is rolling forward, how the Lord is hastening His work at this very special time," he said. In his site dedicatory prayer, he asked that God "hallow and protect this temple site, which will come to be a place of great spiritual strength and power."

Groundbreaking Date Released for the Grand Rapids Michigan Temple

Elder Mathias Held, First Counselor in the North America Northeast Area Presidency, will preside at the groundbreaking event for the Grand Rapids Michigan Temple on Saturday, December 7, 2024. The temple will be constructed on a 10.5-acre property located at 2400 Forest Hill Avenue SE in Grand Rapids. Plans call for a single-story building of approximately 20,000 square feet. An updated exterior rendering has also been released, showing a redesigned tower that sits over the temple entrance.

Demolition Activity at the Grand Rapids Michigan Temple Site

The former building that occupied the Grand Rapids Michigan Temple site has been demolished in preparation for construction of the temple. No groundbreaking date has been announced, but plans are underway. The 19,000-square-foot temple will serve Church members living on the western side of Michigan, sparing them traveling across the state to the Detroit Michigan Temple.

Exterior Rendering Released for the Grand Rapids Michigan Temple

The official exterior rendering for the Grand Rapids Michigan Temple was released today. The 20,000-square-foot building will be constructed on a 10.5-acre site located at 2400 Forest Hill Avenue in Grand Rapids. It will be the second temple built in the state of Michigan. The Detroit Michigan Temple was dedicated by President Gordon B. Hinckley on October 23, 1999.

Location of the Grand Rapids Michigan Temple Announced

The location of the Grand Rapids Michigan Temple has been announced as a 10.5-acre site located at 2400 Forest Hill Avenue in Grand Rapids. Plans call for a single-story temple of approximately 20,000 square feet. Detailed design plans are still under development, and project leaders will soon begin working with city officials on preliminary approvals. An exterior rendering and groundbreaking date will be released in the future.
