Steeple Frame Added to the Birmingham England Temple
As structural framing for the Birmingham England Temple progresses, the framework for the steeple was recently installed, giving local residents their first feel for the height and mass of the building. The beautiful exterior design combines elements of traditional Latter-day Saint temple construction with architectural elements found in historic English parish churches.
Structural Framing Progressing for the Birmingham England Temple
With the foundation in place for the Birmingham England Temple, structural framing has been erected for the center block and north wing of the building, including the square-shaped steeple tower and the pitched roof over the north wing. The temple stands on Penns Lane in Sutton Coldfield on the property of the former mission office. Construction of England's third temple began nearly 10 months ago.
Birmingham England Temple Site Readied for Foundation Work
The Birmingham England Temple site has been fully cleared in preparation for foundation work to begin. The existing meetinghouse will remain, but the building that formerly housed the England Birmingham Mission has been removed. At the entrance to the property, mature trees and trimmed shrubs stand behind the welded wire fence that encircles the construction area. The project has been underway for nearly six months.
Meetinghouse Car Park Removed from the Birmingham England Temple Site
The former mission office for the England Birmingham Mission on Penns Lane has been demolished, making way for the construction of the Birmingham England Temple. The meetinghouse car park has been removed, and a growing mound of dirt can be seen on the temple site where land clearing and early construction activities are getting underway. In addition to the temple, the complex will include the existing meetinghouse and new patron arrival and housing facilities.
Mission Office Demolition Underway at the Birmingham England Temple Site
A construction fence has been erected at the Birmingham England Temple site where demolition of the former mission office building has begun. The groundbreaking ceremony for the temple was held three months ago, and construction has commenced. The temple is the third to be constructed in the British Isles, joining the London England Temple (1958) and Preston England Temple (1998). Temples have also been announced for Edinburgh, Scotland, and Dublin, Ireland.
Ground Broken for the Birmingham England Temple
Ground was formally broken for the Birmingham England Temple on Saturday, March 22, 2025. Elder Scott D. Whiting of the Seventy and president of the Europe North Area presided. "Today marks a joyous occasion as we break ground for the Birmingham England Temple," said Elder Whiting. "This holy house will stand as a beacon of faith, peace and devotion to Jesus Christ for generations to come. We pray that it will bless not only those who enter its doors but also the surrounding community, as a symbol of love, service and unity."

Plans call for a one-story temple of approximately 10,800 square feet with patron housing and arrival facilities.
Planning Permission for the Birmingham England Temple Granted
The Birmingham City Council has granted planning permission for the Birmingham England Temple. "I’m so delighted we now have formal approval to move forward with the construction of the temple," said Elder Martin J. Turvey, a senior Church leader in the United Kingdom. "I’m grateful to everyone who has worked so hard to get us to this point, especially that the local community response to the temple has been largely so positive. What a blessing this will be."
