Temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

A construction barrier has been erected around the land south of the stake center for the Antananarivo Madagascar Ivandry Stake where foundation work is underway for the Antananarivo Madagascar Temple. The 10,000-square-foot building will serve the 17,000+ Church members who live on the island, currently organized into six stakes and one district. Madagascar is the second-largest island country in the world by area.

Elder Denelson Silva, First Counselor in the Africa South Area Presidency, presided at the groundbreaking ceremony for Antananarivo Madagascar Temple on Saturday, March 15, 2025. He was accompanied by Elder Dwayne J. van Heerden, Area Seventy, and other local leaders and dignitaries. In his site dedicatory prayer, spoken in Malagasy, Elder Silva asked "that not only the workforce, but the neighborhood, this city, this country and all the other cities that will be part of the district of the future Antananarivo Madagascar Temple can also feel that Thy future house will bring more peace, more hope and bring more faith in their lives."

The groundbreaking for the Antananarivo Madagascar Temple will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025. Elder Denelson Silva, First Counselor in the Africa South Area Presidency, will preside. The temple will be built on a 9.8-acre site on Lalana Général Andrimahazo where an existing meetinghouse is located. The property is found in Fokontany Andranoro, Commune Ambohibao, Antehiroka in Antananarivo. Plans call for a single-story temple of approximately 10,000 square feet with patron housing and arrival facilities.

On December 11, 2023, the location of the Antananarivo Madagascar Temple was announced as a 9.8-acre site next to a U.S. Embassy on Lalana Général Andrimahazo where the meetinghouse for the Ambohijanahary and Ambohimanarina Wards is located. The property is situated in Fokontany Andranoro, Commune Ambohibao, Antehiroka in Antananarivo. Plans call for a single-story temple of approximately 10,000 square feet with patron housing and arrival facilities.
